Abstract
Research into the relationship between Descartes and Ortega y Gasset has been somewhat neglected in the literature. It has been frequently stated that Ortega was a strong critic of Cartesianism in general. This essay tries to put more emphasis on the positive side of the connection. It is not by chance that Ortega has frequently called his philosophy the "Cartesianism of Life". The final conclusion of the author is that the mature philosophy of Ortega is a deepening and a critical continuation of Cartesian thinking in many respects.
