Abstract
"Religion", according to Wittgenstein, says: 'do this! think like that! but it cannot justify this ...' This paper analyses Wittgenstein's remarks on religious belief in culture and value, and considers the senses in which he is right in saying that religion can offer no justifications; it then goes on to show that this need not mean that the adoption of religious belief is something purely arbitrary or subjective.
