Abstract
New objects that were previously only implicit in the structures have been introduced recently in model theory. They are the imaginaries and the hyperimaginaries. In this paper we explain why they have been introduced and we analyze its role in stable and simple theories and in Galois theory. Finally, we discuss the question of elimination of hyperimaginaries
