Abstract
It is our main concern in this paper to review Edward Sapir's work in order to explain the essence of his "linguistic relativity" perspective, as well as to clear up the misinterpretations caused by his words. If we want to achieve an accurate description of Sapir's linguistic relativity, we cannot confine ourselves to his linguistic writings, rather, on the contrary, we must pay attention to the anthropological and artistic facet of his work. In this way, we will be able to understand not only the right meaning of the linguistic relativity focus in Sapir's work, but, furthermore, we will establish a conception of the relativity principle which transcends the limits of linguistics and expands its applicability to the wide range of social sciences
