Abstract
Since Shannon and Weaver introduced the Mathematical Theory of Communication in 1948, such an approach has not been taken into account in the design of the semantic definition of the information content. This article is mainly aimed at showing that such approach allows us to extract some unavoidable constraints when designing a semantic analysis of the concept of information. It should also be considered, however, that this theory does not aim to define information content, but only to present a way to deal with the amount of information useful for engineers.
