Abstract
Recent discussions of terrorism often emphasize the role of terror in acts of terrorism. On these accounts, acts of terrorism are designed to produce terror in individuals--citizens of a state--to effect changes in state policies or intimidate the citizenry. The kinds of political backgrounds to those acts of violence which are counted as terrorism are sometimes extended beyond everyday civil politics to include (for example) instances of rape as evidence of sexual politics. Suppose that we can, should resist the terror of violence: does this suggestion affect how acts of violence in the extended class are perceived?
