La introspección y el uso cognitivo del lenguaje

In this paper, we examine Carruthers’s thesis that most of our cognitive processes use public language as their vehicle. His main argument for this thesis is that the data provided by introspection show such a use of language in thought. We try to show that introspection does not reveal such a cognitive use of language. In fact, the data of introspection (plus further arguments pointing to the same direction) make us think that the cognitive use of public language that we make is not (and cannot be) as a vehicle, but rather as help, of our thoughts.
